Meeting Minutes
April 15, 2010
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Phil Greschner at 6:00pm. Members in attendance were Cindy Cardinal, Phil Greschner, Mary Oelke (arrived at 6:40), Theresa Schindler (left at 6:40), Bernie Shelton (arrived at 6:15), and Virginia Zaidel. Member absent was Samantha Johnson. Also in attendance was Doris Paitel.
The secretary’s report was presented. Theresa made a motion, seconded by Phil to accept the secretary’s report as written. Motion carried.
Treasurer Samantha Johnson sent a written report. The checkbook balance is $6,698.41. The savings account balance is $1,657.06. Checks were written for fireworks, the tractor pull, and to Darryl Oelke for gas to transport the float to parades last summer. Cindy made a motion, seconded by Virginia to donate $1000 to Owen-Withee-Curtiss EMS. Motion carried.
2010 Fair Planning:
Virginia reported that we have four queen candidates- Brygit Smith, Grade 9; Jessica Scott, Grade 9; Brittany Peterson, Grade 11; and Deanna Oelke, Grade 10. She will ask Noreen Thorne to make the Queen Contestant badges again this year. Phil will get the tickets printed. He was reminded to use our new address on the tickets. The Parade theme will be--CONNECT to Owen’s history and ENERGIZE for Owen’s growth. Phil will ask Harold and Donna (Schluter) Parker to be our Parade Marshalls. Phil was unable to get any additional high school bands for this year from the schools that he talked to. Phil will check on the Zor Drum Corp, Calliope, and Harley’s with us getting one of the three for the parade. Phil will check on getting Dream Flight if he can’t get one of the ZOR groups. Dream Flight was very popular when it was here two years ago. Phil will talk to “Fragile”/Helping Hands to see if they would like to have a float, possibly as an additional musical element for the parade. Cindy will check with the DNR on the availability of Smokey Bear or Woodsy Owl. Cindy will order two cash drawers from Staples for as low a cost as possible.
Mill Pond Park Design Plan
The Committee looked at the sketch drawn by Doris Paitel. Committee members like the idea of one large building, encompassing an area for a cooler, kitchen/food service, bar area, a place for musicians/DJs, a storage area, additional bathrooms, tables for dining that could be moved aside for dancing, and a multi-purpose area that can be used for bingo, displays, etc. The single building would be enclosed and available for rent. Some things discussed in addition to the sketch were the need for a warming/steam table, outside counter for condiments, a good exhaust system, in floor heat so the building could be used year round, plastic shelving for storage, stainless steel counters/racks/shelving for food prep and buns, etc. Everyone felt that it would probably be ok to keep the open pavilion by the road where it is. This would allow one space in the park that did not have to be rented. The Committee also discussed the possibility that at some future date, people might have to pay a fee to enter the fairgrounds and whether it would be possible to put up a temporary fence around the entire area during the fair. Phil and Cindy will be attending the May Parks and Rec meeting representing the Fair Committee as well as other organizations/committees. Samantha Johnson might also attend.
Other Business: Cindy passed out a Committee member contact list for the members present. She also made the Committee aware of possible future changes to their duties, e.g. taking over the Christmas decorating at the Mill Pond with help from community members.
Bernie made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mary. Meeting adjourned at 7:10 pm. Next meeting will be held April 27th at 5:30 pm.
