Parks & Recreation Committee
April 7, 2010
The City of Owen Parks & Recreation Committee met on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Owen City Hall. Chairperson Dennis Lulloff presided and served as secretary. Committee Members Present: Kroeplin, Nelson, Renderman, Tolzmann, and Lulloff. Absent was Gokey. A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order. Cindy Cardinal arrived at 7:15 pm and Al Christophersen was also present from 7-8 pm.
The Committee traveled to Mill Pond Park and hung the Message Board there. They then traveled to Crowley Park to look at the site where the Message Board will be installed. The Committee arrived back at City Hall at 8 pm. to continue their meeting.
Approve Minutes
A motion was made by Tolzmann, seconded by Renderman to approve the 3/10/10 minutes. Motion passed on a voice vote.
Placement of Message Boards
A motion was made by Renderman, seconded by Nelson to remove the tree by the bathroom in Crowley Park, have Al Christophersen grind the stump out and place the message board where the present camping fee sign is. Cardinal said the cost to have the tree removed and the stump ground could come out of the Urban Forestry budget and be used toward maintaining Tree City USA.
Walking Trail Post and Non-Motorized Vehicle Sign
The missing post and sign were discussed. The consensus of the committee was to wait and see if there are problem with anyone using a motorized vehicle on the trail. If there are, the sign will need to be replaced.
Plan for Mill Pond Park Design
Discussion about the park planning meeting with other organizations was discussed. The horseshoe and volleyball leagues will be contacted to see if they would like to send a representative to the meeting. Cardinal was asked to see if the City had a map of the Mill Pond area and send it to members of the Parks and Rec Committee. This map would also be available to other groups as they discuss their future needs in the park. She also has a drawing of a possible building layout done by Doris Paitel that the Committee would like to look at. The meeting with representatives from other groups will take place on May 12, 2010. Lulloff will check to see if the meeting can be held at the Old School in the event that weather does not permit it being held in the park. The Samuels Group will not be asked to attend the meeting, but to attend a later meeting after Parks and Rec has had time to analyze the suggestions from the other groups.

A motion was made by Renderman, seconded by Kroeplin to adjourn. The meeting was adjourned at 8:32 p.m.
